- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar mixed with 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing well.
- Mix the cinnamon sugar in a shallow bowl. Roll dough into 1 1/2-inch balls and coat in cinnamon sugar.
- Place on prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly if desired.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden and cracks form on top.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or vanilla extract to the dough.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days for best freshness.
