  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for coating)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to wet mixture, stirring until combined.
  4. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon for coating.
  5. Shape dough into 1 1/2-inch balls, roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture, and place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set but centers are soft. Allow to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
