A rich and creamy Italian sausage orzo dish that’s quick to prepare and perfect for weeknight dinners.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage slices and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Stir in orzo and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until orzo is tender, about 10 minutes.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Return sausage to skillet and cook until heated through.
  6. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute turkey or chicken sausage for a leaner option.
  • For added vegetables, include spinach or cherry tomatoes during simmering.
